Pima Canyon Estates - Tucson, Arizona
Rich History
Pima Canyon EstatesThere's a tangible feeling of belonging here. Created through the land, it reaches out and connects you to a rich heritage. The stories begin with the glacier that carved Pima Canyon out of the mountainside and continue through the wide spectrum of people that called the area home. Some tales and local folklore might seem taller than the foothills themselves. But the area's generous expanse has room enough for many more. With The Reserve at Pima Canyon, your personal history will mark the next stage of this ongoing saga.

Among the local tales of treasure was the story of the famous "Mine with an Iron Door." According to long-standing lore, a native revolt in 1751 inspired Jesuit missionaries to stash vast amounts of gold and silver in a protected vault, embedded in the mountainside. Some say these riches have stayed safe from discovery to this day.

Among the many immigrants attracted by the area's mining stories was fabled Western figure Col. William "Buffalo Bill" Cody. An owner of many local mines, Cody would often entertain other miners with impressive shooting displays. In one such story, Buffalo Bill's quick trigger saved him from a Santa Catalina jaguar, the pelt becoming one of his most prized possessions.

The mountains also played refuge to multiple Native American tribes. In fact, over 14 petroglyph sites are evidence of the area's first inhabitants: the Hohokams. Over the centuries, a succession of tribes followed, including the Tohono O'odham and the Pima. Later, famous Apache warriors, such as Geronimo and Chunz, struck at the flood of immigrants and businesses encroaching on their Santa Catalina homeland. Whether facing Spanish trailblazers or American transplants years later, generation after generation of Apache fighters successfully waged a guerrilla war, depending on the local mountains and canyons for protection and cover.
